 Technology Goal

All students will gain proficiency in computer skills appropriate to their grade level in order to enhance learning!
 
Mission Statement
 The misson of the Computer lab is to provide computer instruction and interactive computer activities for all students while integrating technology with the curriculum. In addition to teaching computer skills, typing skills, and software usage, the students are to develop good problem solving skills which will enable them to evolve with our rapidly changing technological world.
 
Goals by age level
 Pre-K
  • Use computer to practice letter recognition, sounds, shapes, colors, patterns, etc.
  • Use computer to improve hand eye coordination using the mouse
  • Learn how to double-click (or click/enter) to launch an application
  • Learn how to navigate the internet with the web browser (refresh, go back, click on links, etc)
  • Learn how to minimize, maximize and exit the browser.
  • Learn basic parts of computer and basic computer vocabulary.
 
K to 1st
 
  • Learn special keys on the keyboard (delete, spacebar, enter)
  • Learn how to use the basic tools of a drawing program using Tuxpaint (pencil, paintbrush, clipart, etc.)
  • Learn basic file functions such as print, open, close
  • (1st grade) Learn beginning word processing skills with Microsoft Word.
  • Use computers as a tool to improve reading and math skills using various software applications such as starfall, reader rabbit, and math blaster
  • Begin learning about internet safety.
  • Learn basic parts of the computer and computer vocabulary (monitor, tower, mouse, desktop, icon, etc)

2nd to 3rd
  • Learn how to do basic word processing skills such as opening and saving a file (in a folder), adding clipart from computer, changing font size and color, spell check
  • Learn basic presentation skills using Microsoft Powerpoint.
  • Continue working on math, reading, and spelling skills on the computer using various software programs
  • Basic troubleshooting on computer (for ex: how to get rid of a dialog box or popup, how to restart computer)
  • Learn how to log on to the computer
  • Learn how to select printer (color or b&w), print preview, and print document
  • Start formal keyboarding practice
  • Begin learning how to use search engines and keywords to locate information
  • Use web quests and scavenger hunts to learn and apply research techniques
  • Learn about internet safety.
 
 4th to 5th
  • Use Microsoft Word for word processing. Learn how to add clipart from computer/internet, change font size and color, format documents, use word art, copy/paste, spell check, etc.
  • Use PowerPoint for slideshows. Learn how to create a PowerPoint slideshow and add effects, such as sound and movement to the presentation. Also learn how to format background colors and how to use shadowing techniques and readable fonts to make words “stand out” in a slide.
  • Begin using Excel to record and graph data. Format column widths and row heights. Chart data and format the color and presentation of the chart using various chart types.
  • Continue working on math, reading, and spelling skills on the computer using various software programs
  • Use advanced search engines techniques and keywords to locate information
  • Use web quests and scavenger hunts to learn and apply research techniques
  • Learn about internet safety and how to avoid cyberbulling.
 
      6th to 8th
  • Keyboarding to attain a minimum goal of 35 WPM
  • Use internet for research
  • Learn how to determine the reliability of the data obtained from a website
  • Learn advanced formatting techniques in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Learn the use of formulas in Microsoft Excel
  • Continue to apply and learn advanced skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel to the content areas being studied in other subject areas.
  • Properly cite websites
  • Learn about internet safety and how to avoid cyberbulling.
  • Learn how to use google docs to understand computing in the “cloud"
